Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift
Do you need a breast lift or breast augmentation—or both?
Breast augmentation is designed to enhance the size of your breasts with implants, while a breast lift is designed to make the breasts appear “perkier” and less droopy. Many patients come to us seeking breast augmentation, when in fact a breast lift would be more effective in achieving their aesthetic goals.
How do you determine which procedure is better suited to give you the body you want? The following are some very general factors that are assessed by Dr. Guirguis during your consultation:
1. The Position of Your Breasts: Place a pencil horizontally below one breast then look at the front and side view. If your breast hangs over the pencil considerably, a breast lift may be required (and if the pencil is “held” by your breast, then a breast lift is most likely required).
2. The Position of Your Nipples/Areolae: Looking at your breasts from the front, your nipples/areolae should be in a position where the portion below it is easily visible. The less of an “underbelly” there is, the higher chances a breast lift is necessary.
3. The Position of Your Nipple/Areola From the Side View: Because your breasts swell out from your body, there is a natural curve or sweep indicating the “peak”. If your nipple/areola sits higher than where your natural “peak” is, then you’ll most likely just need a breast augmentation. If it sits lower, then a breast lift may be necessary.
For the majority of patients, the goal of undergoing cosmetic breast surgery is to create a more pleasing aesthetic shape that is harmoniously proportionate with the rest of their body.
can improve the overall shape
reclaims fullness in the upper portion of the breasts
eliminates lax skin
While each patient is unique, Dr. Guirguis has found that a breast lift is often recommended for patients who are older, have had children, and/or have experienced massive weight fluctuations. It is important to note, however, that even if these factors may pertain to you, it does not mean that you’ll need a breast lift. The only way to accurately determine whether a breast lift is necessary for you is to book your medical consultation with Dr. Guirguis.
