BARRIE, ON, November 2, 2009—For years, Barrie's Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) was the only place area residents could get surgical procedures. Now they have a choice.
The Lakeview Surgical Centre is now open, and proud to announce that it was recently recognized as a fully accredited surgery facility by the Canadian Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (CAAASF).
"We're excited to be fully accredited, and look forward to taking some pressure off the RVH's resources. The two facilities can really work together and help each other," said Dr. Emad Guirguis, owner of the centre.
Dr. Guirguis served as a practicing general surgeon for 17 years, before having a vision of working in a different kind of medical building. He envisioned a surgical centre in his home town of Barrie, that's more calming and inviting than most people are used to. His goal became to combine the best staff and equipment in a building surrounded by nature and tranquility.
After a long search, he found a huge residential home, overlooking the waters of Kempenfelt Bay and Lake Simcoe. After he toured the building, his vision began to solidify.
"It took a lot of work to turn a home into a functional, equipped, and accredited surgical centre. New lighting, ventilation and sterilization systems, a new elevator, and things like that, said Dr. Emad Guirguis.
"But the end result is exactly what we envisioned. We give our patients a bright and inviting, yet professional setting. They're calm, they're comfortable."
The centre boasts gorgeous views of the water, and borders Barrie's downtown and waterfront area. Its staff helps patients with procedures like thyroid cancer or skin cancer surgery, hernia repairs, carpal tunnel decompression, removing moles, cysts and lipomas, LAP-BAND adjustable gastric banding, cosmetic surgery, and UltraShape.
